Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 8, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how OfflineLegal.com handles information. The short version: OfflineLegal.com is offline-first software, so your legal documents stay on your computer. We only process the limited personal data needed to sell you a subscription and activate your license.
Your documents never leave your device
Document parsing, OCR, drafting, analysis, comparison, document chat, exports, and the local Gemma AI model run on your computer. We do not receive, store, or have access to the documents you upload or create, the questions you ask the AI, or the outputs it produces. Nothing you process in the app is sent to us or used to train any AI model. You can disconnect from the internet and the core features still work.
Information we actually process
The only personal data we handle relates to buying and running a license:
- Activation data. The email address you use at checkout, license status, plan purchased, device label/ID, and activation token metadata.
- Billing data. Order reference, plan selected, amount, currency, payment status, invoice details, tax information you provide, and refund records. Card details are handled by the payment provider, not by us.
- Website and server logs. IP address, browser/device metadata, timestamps, pages requested, and download/activation events, kept for security and operations.
- Support information. Messages, screenshots, logs, or files you choose to send when you ask for help.
- Local preferences (on your device only). Language, jurisdiction, practice area, and workspace state are stored in the app or browser storage on your machine — not on our servers.
Cookies, local storage & analytics
This website sets no cookies and uses no third-party trackers. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no fingerprinting, and no persistent identifier of any kind. That is why you see no cookie banner — there is nothing to consent to.
We use only the following browser storage, all of it strictly necessary or session-scoped:
- Terms acceptance (
localStorage) — records that you accepted the purchase terms before checkout, so we can prove it and not ask twice. Kept until you clear browser data. - Checkout state (
sessionStorage) — your checkout email, selected plan, and download-unlock flag during a purchase. Deleted automatically when you close the tab. - Language preference (
localStorage) — the interface language you chose. - Session analytics id (
sessionStorage) — a random id that exists only while your tab is open and is deleted when you close it. It is never written to persistent storage, so we cannot recognize you when you return. - Consent record (
localStorage) — only if we ever introduce consent-requiring cookies (e.g. advertising), your accept/reject choice would be stored here. Storing your choice is itself exempt from consent.
Self-hosted, first-party analytics. Our own server counts page views, referrers, device type (mobile/desktop), language, and clicks on buttons like "Buy". Events are sent only to this website's own domain. We do not store your IP address with analytics events, and there is no cross-site tracking. Under ePrivacy Directive Art. 5(3) and GDPR this processing requires no consent because no information is stored on your device beyond the current browsing session and no persistent identifier is created (legal basis: legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — measuring our own website's audience).
If this ever changes — for example, if we run advertising campaigns that require a marketing pixel — a consent banner with equal "Accept" and "Reject" options will appear before any such technology loads, and this section will be updated first. Your choice would be respected via Google Consent Mode v2 and can be changed at any time via the "Cookie settings" link.
Payments
Card payments are processed by our payment provider (Stripe) or the seller of record shown at checkout. OfflineLegal.com does not store full card numbers. We receive only the payment status, invoice, tax, refund, and fraud-prevention information needed to activate and support your license.
How we use information
- Take payment and activate, renew, or cancel your subscription;
- Provide the installer download, license activation, and local AI model package access;
- Process refunds, chargeback evidence, invoices, and taxes;
- Protect against fraud, abuse, unauthorized activation, and security incidents;
- Provide support you request and improve reliability and compatibility;
- Comply with accounting, tax, consumer-protection, and other legal obligations.
Legal bases (EU / UK users)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases include performing our contract with you (activation, billing, support), our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service, compliance with legal obligations (tax, accounting), and your consent or explicit request when you send support files.
Sharing
We share limited account/billing data only with the providers needed to run the service: the payment processor, hosting/email providers, fraud-prevention and accounting/tax providers, professional advisers, and authorities where legally required. We never sell your data, and we do not have your documents to share in the first place.
Retention
License, payment, tax, and invoice records are kept as long as needed for accounting, legal, and fraud-prevention purposes. Server logs are kept for limited operational periods unless needed for security or legal reasons. Your documents stay on your computer and are deleted by you, in the app or your file system — we cannot delete them because we never receive them.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures for the account and billing data we hold. No system is perfectly secure. Because your documents live on your device, keep your computer, operating system, email account, and OfflineLegal.com installation protected — especially when processing confidential files.
International transfers
Our payment, hosting, and support providers may process account/billing data in countries different from yours. Where required, transfers use appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections or provider compliance mechanisms. Your documents are not transferred at all, because they remain local.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, export, or object to processing of your personal data, and to complain to a data protection authority. To exercise them, use the contact details shown on your receipt, checkout page, or support page. Note that requests can only cover the account/billing data we actually hold, not documents that never left your device.
Children
OfflineLegal.com is not directed to children and should not be used by anyone who cannot legally enter into these Terms or consent to data processing in their jurisdiction.
Changes
We may update this Policy as the product, billing setup, or legal requirements change. The "Last updated" date identifies the current version.
